We had the consultation with Sean Marvin the surgeon from Sheffield Children’s Hospital today and now have a date for Adam’s Gastronomy operation. He is going in for the op on the 27th February. He is going to have a ‘button’ feeding tube inserted directly into his stomach using key hole surgery.
A button feeding tube is a skin level device that doesn’t dangle down like the other type of feeding tube available. It is held in place by a water filled balloon which is inflated in the stomach so the tube can’t come out. The good thing about this device is that it can be inserted using key hole surgery so the discomfort to Adam will be kept to a minimum and he should only need a couple of nights in hospital after the op.
